Dutch company successfully mixes gas with hydrogen for energy, Sina2009-06-25 12:36:44 GMT2009-06-25 20:36:44 (Beijing Time) Xinhua English BRUSSELS, June 25 (Xinhua) -- A Dutch energy company has successfully mixed hydrogen with natural gas for green energy, the Trouw newspaper reported Thursday. There is less pollution because hydrogen does not emit greenhouse gases, and the process also reduced energy consumption. Fourteen households are cooking and heating their homes with this compound, according to Trouw. The experiment was carried out by energy company Eneco on the Wadden island of Ameland. In the last 18 months, the amount of hydrogen mixed with gas has been increased to 15 percent. The ultimate target of 20 percent will be reached after the summer, project manager Albert van der Meer was quoted as saying. The production of the hydrogen also uses energy, but it is generated with climate-neutral solar panels.
